How the AI Scores Your Skin
The skin score rates what the camera can verify: evenness of tone across the face, texture smoothness at the resolution of the photo, visible blemish density, and the light-reflection quality (radiance vs. dullness or excessive shine). It is measured from learned visual features rather than landmark geometry — the only category in the scan that is fully texture-based.
The scoring rubric
High scores reflect even tone with fine, regular texture and healthy light reflection. Visible blemishes, patchy redness, strong under-eye contrast, or heavy shine lower the measurement. Two honest caveats are built into how we frame this category: it is the most changeable score on the face (skin condition varies week to week), and it is the most easily faked (smoothing filters directly manipulate what it measures — which is why filtered photos are worth scanning honestly or not at all).
It is also the category most confounded by photo quality itself: compression artifacts, low light noise, and harsh flash all read as texture. A sharp, well-lit, unfiltered photo is a precondition for a meaningful skin score.
